How To Avoid Fake It, Even If You Don’t Have It Syndrome

For many Nigerian Entertainers, the road to success is paved with lies. Not too long ago Tonto Dikeh came out to tell the world after her divorce that the Vehicle and gifts she had been showing off on Instagram and claiming were bought by her husband, Churchill, was actually bought by herself. She consistently lied to her fans about her marriage. Also popular Instagram blogger Blessing Okoro went on social media and posed with another man’s house as her own. She was arrested and disgraced. The shame she suffered was on full display for everyone on social media to see.

Why are celebs living fake lives? We have become a society that worships money. From our religious organizations to our institutions and entertainment sector, we have to redefine our values. We have to ask ourselves what is the benefit of all the lies. Think about the people who will be affected by your lies like your children if you have them. This is why we have come up with a list to help you avoid the ‘fake it, till you make it syndrome’.

1. Be content. Your only competition in life should be who you were yesterday. Stop running your race based on another man or woman’s standard. Set the bar high for yourself and live with the results.

2. Surround yourself with the Right Right people. When we were kids, they used to tell us to choose our friends and not let our friends choose us. That is very true. Surround yourself with achievers. People who are focused on goals not material things.

3. Avoid places where pressure thrives. You know the places you go to and come back feeling bad. You know the places where the entire conversation is about how they are buying jets and G-Wagons. You know how you feel when you get home. If you get home and start feeling depressed, it is time to change your circle.

4. Become confident in who you are. So what if Omotola and Genevieve Nnaji are richer than you today. No one knows what tomorrow holds. Very few people in Nigeria remember the name Candido Da Rocha, yet he was one of the first Millionaires in Nigeria. He would be a Billionaire by today’s standards if he were alive. Today, he is forgotten. Life is about perspective. Also remind yourself constantly that no one is buried with their bank account. Learn to be happy at every phase you find yourself in life.
