AGF seeks removal of EFCC Boss, Ibrahim Magu

Nigeria’s attorney general, Abubakar Malami has written to president Muhammadu Buhari recommending the termination of the appointment of the Acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ibrahim Magu.

Reports have it that in the letter Malami addressed to the president, he based his recommendation on several grounds “raging from diversion of recovered loot to insubordination and misconduct” by Magu as he also included a shortlist of three names for Magu’s replacement.

Reacting to this, some of Magu’s supporters insist that removing Magu at this time when he has given muscle to Buhari’s anti-corruption fight would be a mistake”, adding that considering the weight of Malami’s allegations against Magu, the president may be inclined “to set up a probe panel that will look into the veracity of the allegations and make necessary recommendations.”

A supporter of the acting EFCC boss said;

”It will interest you to note that Malami accused the EFCC boss of disclosing a total naira recovery of N504 billion but lodged N543 billion in the Recovery Account with the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN). Incidesaidly, this exceeded the disclosed figures by N39 billion.”

Malami claimed that most of the recovered assets by the EFCC were allegedly sold by Magu without the knowledge of anyone.

  1. When one remains in acting position for over four years, its obvious he has overstayed his welcome. Its apoly that the AGF just realised Magu incompetence now, while Saraki and the 8th Assembly knew this all along

  2. Anti corruption unit is even corrupt and they’re chasing corrupt guys….what a corruption story

    Please, let him be sacked,another person can do this job better if the AGF has seen a loophole innjis regime

  3. When the head is bad, what do you think will happen to the body. Corruption everywhere, we can’t even a saint in our leaders it’s very unfortunate. May Almighty God lift us up in this mess.
