FG to close Third Mainland bridge on Friday till 2021

The Federal Government has announced that the third mainland bridge will be closed on Friday for maintenance to be carried out and will not be opened till January 2021.

This was according to a statement by Minister of Works and Housing, Mr Babatunde Fashola on Tuesday.

He explained that the maintenance of the busiest bridge in the country was aimed at replacing damaged components for a better motoring experience and is to be carried out on a length of 3.5 kilometres out of the 11.8 kilometres of the bridge.

He called on motorists to be patient as he acknowledged the hardship they will go through in the next six months. He added that it will be better to bear six months of work and closure than to allow the bridge collapse, which would take years to fix.

  1. Why can’t you do it after sallah? Hope it will not affect those people in Lagos but notwithstanding sha “prevention is better than cure”.

  2. Let them also take a look at Niger Brigde which is also in terrible state. Someone wrote an article about the state of the brigde whereby it was noted that the brigde is now shaking. To avert a terrible mishap on that brigde, an immediate action supposed to be carried out on the brigde to effect repairs while work on the New Niger Brigde should be speeded up
