Beirut Explosion: Lebanese PM steps down

Lebanon’s prime minister, Hassan Diab, and the country’s entire government have resigned following the devastating Beirut explosion which has killed at least 160 people and left more than 6,000 injured.

According to Diab, the explosion that rocked Beirut last week was caused by “endemic corruption” as he called for trial on those responsible for the deadly blast.
“I declare today the resignation of this government. May God protect Lebanon. I am taking “a step back” to stand with the people and fight the battle for change alongside them,” he said.

The prime minister also blamed corrupt politicians who preceded him for the “earthquake” that has hit Lebanon.

“They should have been ashamed of themselves because their corruption is what has led to this disaster that had been hidden for seven years.

“Today we follow the will of the people in their demand to hold accountable those responsible for the disaster that has been in hiding for seven years, and their desire for real change.
“In the face of this reality I am announcing today the resignation of this government,” he added.

  1. Kudos to the prime minister for taking bold step, stand up firm on justice and I hope history will not forget you for the good deeds. This corruption of a thing is a pandemic disease that must be tackled with strict hand and law, without that things will be getting worst. I sympathize with those loose their lives and properties.

  2. imaging this can Nigeria President resign for the killings of Nigerian’s no y because of they selfish interest

  3. How I wish our leaders could emulate this kind of habit? Our leaders can never resign their position no matter what happened. I wish them quick recovery from this awful incident and rest in peace for those who loose their lives. I wish the formal prime minister prosperity in his future endeavors.

  4. Mhhh!!! This is wonderful and fearful
The whole government resigning. Who is now managing the country’s affairs for now and using the machinery of government to fish out those that caused the disaster
But come to think of it, this story is not all that clear, how did those corrupt government officials cause the earth quake if I may ask
Were they the ones that threw the bomb
God save us…o from politicians world wide
