Edo Election: Oshiomhole and wife of Edo deputy Governor engage in war of words

Maryann Philip-Shaibu, the wife of Edo Deputy Governor and Adams Oshiomhole, a former Governor of the State, have engaged in a war of words over an alleged threat to the life of the Deputy Governor’s wife.

Marryann had alleged that Oshiomhole sent thugs to monitor her movement, in a petition to Edo Commissioner of Police, Babatunde Kokumo, by her lawyer, Idemudia Ilueminosen.

The petition said: “We are informed by our client that on Sunday, September 6, 2020, at Jattu in Etsako West Local Government Area of Edo State, during the All Progressives Congress (APC) campaign tour to the community, Comrade Oshiomhole, a chieftain of APC, threatened to deal with our client, Mrs. Maryann Philip-Shaibu, after casting aspersions on her person and sending several warnings that she steers clear of campaigning for her party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) under which platform her husband, Hon. Philip Shaibu is contesting as a deputy governorship candidate, along with the standard-bearer, the Governor, Mr. Godwin Nogheghase Obaseki.

“We are further informed by our client that Comrade Oshiomhole did not only threaten to deal with her but he has also declared that he has sent some thugs to monitor her movements in Etsako West LGA, with a view to carrying out the threat of dealing with her.

“Consequent upon this, our client for fear of being hurt or harm by Comrade Oshiomhole and the assigned thugs has not been able to continue with her campaign.

“It is on this note that we passionately plead with you (Kokumo) on behalf of our client, to use your good office to investigate the incident, with a view to bringing Comrade Oshiomhole and his cohorts to book, to avert any unpleasant and unforeseen harm coming to our client, especially as the Edo State governorship election is by the corner; precisely on September 19, 2020.

‘’This is more so that the lives of our client and her family (by this threat) are at stake and the situation may degenerate into a full-blown crisis if nothing urgent is done.”

Reacting to the Deputy Governor’s wife’s claim, Victor Oshioke, the spokesman to Oshiomhole, said the petition was a futile attempt by Maryann to divert attention from her trending video where she was threatening to flog some women if they attend any event other than the one she organised.

He said the petition was a calculated attempt to rubbish the name of the former APC National Chairman.

Oshiomhole said that the Deputy Governor and his wife should find another way to save their family image, which, according to him, had been badly damaged by their numerous unguarded public utterances.

The statement said that the former Governor cannot, under any circumstance, “be distracted by the buzzing of baby mosquitoes like Shaibu and his wife.”

  1. Why all these war of words, because of politics you have now turned yourself to enemies, what would you do if politics go. You ought to remember that we are all one and I should not expect politics to seperate us. We should unite together and we shouldn’t let politics seperate us.

  2. I will just plead to do propper investigation on this matter because this man they mentioned, imean The formal governor of Edo State and formal APC chairman Adams Oshiomole I know him very well and I also know he can do it, because if you remember the last time he said “once you join APC your sin are forgiven and he also have allegations with him. He can do such thing just because the deputy governor follow his boss Godswill Obaseki to PDP. Think of it you know he can not threaten the governor and his wife because he know Obasiki is the governor of the state and he can order his arrest. So please do the propper investigation. Thank you

  3. In life you will have to make choices, sometimes they will be the hardest ones you’ll make or the easiest ones you’ll make. Either way the choices you make will have a big affect on your life.just small understanding.

  4. They should look for a way of reducing their salaries and allowances if not so they will continue to kill themselves. Politics is a lucrative business that everyone would like to venture into it. Police should stand up to their responsibilities because no blood is what for this election, they should arrest anybody who wants to cause mayhem in this election.

  5. Is just politics, is a game of chance n war. You use all means to get ur opposition off track if u want to win. And that’s what is happening in Edo state, just wait after d election and u all will see their dramas.

  6. Nawa o. I don’t know why this people have problems between themselves, they should be fighting to make our country better not for there self interest

  7. Hmmmmm… Oshiomole on this again, politics is not a do or die affair and if the accusations filed against oshimole is true then it doesn’t speak good of him at all.

  8. Have we not gone pass this stage in our politics? How can all these old men and women politicians still be behaving like little children. All these things they are saying to me are immaterial
Instead of them discussing on how to make Edo state better in all ramifications, they are busy wasting time talking rubbish
Will these things they are saying put food on people’s table in Edo, will these nonsense they are saying construct the roads in Edo, will it provide good health care, good schools, adequate electricity??
It is an obsolete thing talking about killing someone just to win an election. One begins to wonder the type of leader a person who murdered someone to become will be
Please I beg every politician in Edo state to stop heating the polity and put their effort in finding ways to tackle the numerous problems bedeviling Edo state

  9. This man has become something else since he joined politics. Sometimes I try to review him when he was the head of NLC and now. The good man in him has left.

  10. oshiomole leave this woman alone na! this woman is not accusing you falsely, oshiomole did what Mrs. Shaibu is accusing him of! oshiomole try this nonsense with Mr. Shaibu na!
