Prof. Florence Obi becomes first female UNICAL VC

Professor Florence Obi has emerged as the first female Vice-Chancellor of the University of Calabar. She clinched the position on Thursday, September 10 after hours of meeting with the governing council of the institution led by Senator Nkechi Nwaogu.

Obi who was the Deputy Vice-chancellor is now the 11th Vice-Chancellor of the UNICAL after 45 years since the institution was established.

She served as the Commissioner, Ministry of Women Affairs, and Social Development and member of the Cross River State Executive Council in 2007.

Obi will take over from Professor Zana Akpagu, whose tenure ends on November 30, 2020.

    I call upon her to make sure the university is brought up to its glory within this her tenure
    She should try to make sure that the institution is run well as it is supposed
