Blackout to loom Nigeria as Kainji Dam bursts
Some Nigerian states may soon experience blackouts following a sudden burst at the Kainji Hydroelectric Dam in Kainji.
The embankments of Kainji dam, one of Nigeria’s hydro-power stations caved in after the opening of the four spillway gates to free surplus water caused by heavy rains.
On Sunday, the management, Mainstream Energy Solution Limited, opened the points but discovered that the dam was impounding more water than it should.
“We opened the 4 spillway gates because of the water pressure. Now, it is hitting the embarkment and will continue to expand if not reinforced. The embarkment is falling, rocks are falling into the water”, an official told Thisday.
The dam, which produces hydroelectric power, is located in New Bussa town in Borgu Local Government Area of Niger State.
Authorities and the firm have shut down the hydro-power station for repairs.
This will take about 760MW of electricity off the national grid.
Abdulrasaq Jakada, a top official of the Emir of Borgu’s palace said the monarch has been informed of the development.

Nonsense talk. We are tired and sick of all these cock and bull stories that always emanate from these establishments saddled with the responsibility of generating and distributing power to the masses
What concerns me if the embarkments of Kainji dam are caving in. When last did I see electricity light from the public power supply system and grid in my household, I can’t even remember, so it is their problem

There has been black out even before the Kainji burst, I hope this will not also lead to flooding.
They should quickly find alternative to this incident because we even not using much of light not to take away from the small light that we are still managing, it won’t augur well because not everyone of us can afford to buy PMS.

How much megawatt of electricity are we generating not to talk of losing 760 megawatt due the full water in dam. They should come to our rescue because we are not using much light before oooo. They should have mercy on us. They should not add to our problems.

They are telling us as if there has been light in Nigeria, we are use to the black out so they should not treathen us with it, but nevertheless they should try and repair the Kainji Dam before it will cause more problem than this their black out of a thing
