It will be difficult to scrap SARS because they are involved in fighting terrorism — Frank Mba

The Nigeria Police Public Relations Officer, Frank Mba, has given reasons why it will be difficult to scrap the special anti-robbery squad (SARS).

While addressing the nationwide protest against the police unit, in an interview with Channel TV, on Friday, October 9, Mba said it will be impossible to totally disband SARS as they are involved in the fight against banditry and terrorism most especially in places like Maiduguri and Yobe.

He said;

“If the #EndSARS hashtag is seen as a symbolic call for the reform of SARS, I would say clearly that the leadership of the NPF is in line and ready to work with those making that call,”

“However, if the hashtag should be seen as a call for the total disbandment of SARS, I would tell you very clearly that it will be difficult for any responsible organisation to work that path, taking into cognisance the amount of investment in training that government has made in setting up that department and the very critical roles it is playing.

“As a matter of fact, we have received a lot of calls from people particularly in states like Maiduguri, Yobe, and some other parts of the north where SARS operatives are deeply embedded in the fight against banditry, insurgency.

“And these people have made it very clear that ending SARS is not even an option for them because of the critical roles SARS operatives are playing in those areas, heavily on bandits, terrorists and other kinds of criminals.

  1. Frank Mba should save our time with all these nonsense explanations. He feels they are talking to fools and kindergarten children
    I think the terrorists the SARS are fighting are now ‘innocent citizens’
    #ENDSARSNOW

  2. End SARS might not matter most but the way they are operating in this country are very bad, if police can reform that section totally, it will be an advantage to us because the way they are operating is unprofessional.

  3. They are only killing our people,they don’t fight terrorism,they should go and face boko harm if truly they are fighting terrorism

  4. SARS are doing a great work in tackling the arm robbers, insurgency etc. but the way they use to harass ordinary Nigerians and unarmed citizens is totally bad, especially north Eastern part of the country as you said SARS are really working at that place.

  5. If we look at the activities of SARS critically, they have killed so many innocent people, wounded many and extort many people, if police can disband this section and replace them with well trained and oriented officers, it will be a great achievement.

  6. SARS is not protecting us, instead they add problem to the citizen in the country, there work is not relevant anymore, I think you must be very stupid for saying it will be very difficult to ban the anti robbery squad, don’t say that again#ENDSARS is most easy thin.

  7. That might be true still they need to be disciplined and be cautious when dealing with the life’s of the innocent civilians…. That will be good if they can be deployed to fight insurgency in North

  8. I have no doubt that the SARS will be reformed for better performance. But the out right scrap is a joke and risk carried too far.
