WTO: Trump wrong for rejecting Okonjo-Iweala – Fani-Kayode

Former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode has condemned the move by the United States President, Donald Trump to oppose the appointment of Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala as the Director-General of World Trade Organisation (WTO).

Recall that Okonjo-Iweala on Wednesday won the popular vote by a wide margin, with the expectation of an announcement after a World Trade Organization meeting in Geneva.

She was reported to have won the support of 104 of all 164 member countries of the WTO, many of which were from Africa and Europe, but was opposed by the United states.

Reacting in a post on his Twitter page, Fani-Kayode warned that Trump’s opposition to Okonjo-Iweala would upset millions of his supporters in Nigeria and Africa and hopes he reconsiders his move.

He wrote;

“I love @realDonaldTrump & I want him to win on Nov. 3rd. I believe he is the best for America &the world &that he is the only one that is capable of standing up to China. I do not however believe that he is infallible &his decision to block @NOIweala as DG of WTO proves that.

..This extraordinary lady is by far the best candidate,her integrity is unimpeachable & her ability is unquestionable. Opposing her has upset millions of Trump-lovers in Nigeria & Africa &hundreds of thousands of Nigerian/Americans in the U.S. itself.
I hope he reconsiders.

  1. In the first instance, I don’t understand the reason why Donald Trump will reject her emergency as a WTO organization director, I don’t even understand it? If people could intervene in the interest of the world, they can do that.

  2. It’s a good achievement for Nigerians and Donald Trump should not oppose it, if he has any other agenda against us, he should speak.

  3. Leave that jackass of a president…. He didn’t know what he was doing and he is gonna loose this upcoming election in God’s Grace….

  4. Who is Trump to reject someone who majority of the people incharge have voted
    I don’t think it will work that way nah

  5. Trump and USA is taking wise decision… Nigeria state is filled with innocent blood killed by the leaders…but federal and state… Nigeria politicians has destroyed the country with corruption and evil heart…two things can solve the issue either revolution or western world intervene… Most…

  6. What are the reasons for his opposition…he should state them.If it is based on sentiments he should have a rethink because she is really good at what she does.

  7. Trump doesn’t hate blacks. He is not a racist either. Truly he doesn’t like our leadership style of unethical behaviour. You need to see a video of his thoughts towards African leaders. It is just unfortunate that some hardworking Nigerians are suffering it such as a meritorious personality as NOI. With all the scandalous happenings in recent times in Nigeria one should not have expected any objective world leader to support anybody our president is supporting for an international appointment as WTO. Nigeria is not influential leadership wise, it is affecting it’s people aspiring for international appointments. Nigerians should focus internally and resolve the mess placed on us by our leaders to have a voice internationally. Forget America we are not in their class.

  8. Trump is always working actively against the interest of Nigeria yet many Nigerians support him blindly and sheepishly. Nigerians are fond of backing the wrong horse in both domestic and international politics. Only to start regretting and lamenting later.
