“North is not secure, it is the worst place to be” – Sultan of Sokoto

Sultan of Sokoto and President of the Nigerian Supreme Council of Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, has revealed that no Northern State in Nigeria is secure as it is the worst place to be in the country.

Speaking at the 4th Quarter Meeting of the Nigeria Inter-Religious Council (NIREC) in Abuja on Thursday November 26, Abubakar shared that the fear of bandit attacks have kept people within their homes with lost hopes.

He further shared the problem of media, according to him the media in the North is not strong enough to bring the atrocities of these bandits to the light of the world.

He said;

“The insecurity in the north is so high that people are even afraid of travelling from Funtua to Zaria, a journey of about 48 or 50 miles. Not to talk of Sokoto to Abuja or to Kano.

“We know what we are going through. We are so insecure in the north that people are losing hope. People keep things in the house so that when the bandits come, they would let them be free.

“Couple of weeks ago, 76 people were killed in Sokoto by bandits in a day, it is not a story because I went there with the governor in Eastern part of Sokoto but you don’t hear these stories because it happened in the North and we don’t have media that is strong enough to bring out these atrocities about the bandits so people think that the North is secure.

“No north is not secure at all. In fact, it is the worst place to be in this country because bandits go about in the villages with their AK47 and nobody talks to them. They stop at the markets and buy things and even collect change with their weapons.”

  1. Obviously it is and is a place one should avoid going for now. The rate of insecurity in the northern region is nothing to write on. Those who will be traveling to the north or from the north to other part of the country this period. I pray God protection for you all and for those in other part of the country.

  2. The government should know what to do to tackle this insecurity problem
    It is highly alarming and disturbing
    No one is safe any longer anywhere in this country again
    God save us

  3. Let me start from the media aspect. Were you not aware when the president buhari said what the media always air fake news. Therefore, if the media houses air this one, the security agencies will quickly come out and denied it. Then who to be blamed.

  4. You (sultan) need to visit president buhari and iron things out, it’s not a matter of saying it or discuss it with media. Meet him and give him first hand information.

  5. What are the all the security chiefs are doing when all of them are from northern part of the country? Tell the president that if they are not capable of handling that post, they should resign with immediate effect.

  6. That is how this administration is handling things with negligence, if people tell them that this is happening in this area, instead of tackling it, those in charge will say it’s lie. Unless you go to him, he won’t answer you.
