“I am ready to resign if that will bring peace to Zamfara” – Gov Matawalle

The Governor of Zamfara State, Bello Matawalle has said that he is ready to resign if that will bring peace to the state.

As a guest on Channels Television Politics Today, Matawalle revealed that when he was asked if he is intimidated by the Federal Government’s declaration of No-Fly-Zone in his state, Zamfara, Matawelle said, “I am ready to accept any solution that will return quality security to Zamfara State.

“I am not intimidated at all, if I know that resigning as Zamfara State Governor will make my people sleep with their two eyes closed, I can resign. I am not power-hungry, I am committed to engaging in whatever that will bring peace to the state, it has been a sleepless night for me to protect my people.”

Major General Babagana Monguno, the National Security Adviser had on Tuesday revealed that President Muhammadu Buhari approved the declaration of “No-Fly-Zone” in Zamfara State as part of effort to combat security challenges in the state.

Matawalle said he was not consulted by the National Security Council before they declared the order in his state, adding that State of Emergency is not the same as “No-Fly-Zone”.

Matawalle said the order should not affect Zamfara State alone since Zamfara is not the only northern state with security challenges.
