Jigawa court sentences man to prison over Facebook post against Governor Badaru

A chief magistrate’s court sitting in Dutse, Jigawa State capital has sentenced one Sabi’u Ibrahim Chamo, to prison over his post on Facebook against the State Governor, Badaru Abubakar

Chamo had alleged that the governor had duped many APC aspirants by collecting their money to give them party tickets. He was arrested on December 24 and detained and then charged to court for failure to substantiate the allegations he made on Facebook.

During the trial, after the first information was read to him, Chamo pleaded guilty to the charge and the court sentenced him to six months in prison, with options of payment of N20,000 fine and 20 strokes of cane to serve as a deterrent to others.

  1. Imagine that…. Sentencing innocent civilians to prison because of a post on social when he is done nothing wrong but entitled to his own opinions…. Whern there is FOIA (Freedom of Information And Expressions) acts in the Constitution….

  2. That serves him right to serve as deterrent to others that use to publicize lies against people not only personalities.

  3. We need to desist from posting fake news because it can cause chaos in the state and in the country at Large. It is a lesson to others.

  4. The government should also play level ground with everybody if anything happens otherwise who is going to punish the government for their misdeed.

  5. He has to be careful next, and make sure he is sure of what ever he says about someone. This are the people that promote lies on Facebook
