Kenyan Man questions how his wife got pregnant after getting a vasectomy

A Kenyan man, Medgclay Salano, is facing confusion after his wife became pregnant despite him undergoing a vasectomy procedure to prevent further pregnancies.

In a recent TV interview, the 36-year-old man shared that they had decided to pursue a vasectomy after previous attempts to prevent a third pregnancy had failed. He underwent the vasectomy procedure at a hospital in Navakholo in July 2022, which was funded by a non-governmental organization.

After several months, his wife missed her period. Initially, they dismissed it as a case of irregular periods and didn’t think much of it.

However, in December, they decided to visit a hospital for a pregnancy test, and it was confirmed that his wife, Beryl, was indeed pregnant. Despite the unexpected turn of events, they made the mutual decision to embrace the pregnancy, with the baby expected to arrive in June.

Beryl, on her part, admitted that she initially denied the reality of her pregnancy. Nonetheless, she expressed her unwavering trust in their relationship, stating that despite this recent setback, trust has never been an issue in their marriage.

”We trust each other and we are believers so there have never had issues of fearing the other party might be up to something bad, she said

According to the man, the doctors explained that his wife may have conceived again due to remaining sperm inside the ducts or a failure of the vasectomy procedure. The doctor who performed the operation advised him to undergo a sperm count to determine what had occurred.

He said; “We thought about other family planning methods and in most cases, when you think of that, you always think about women. My wife has been using contraceptives since she was 21 years when we got married. I felt it was a burden to her. So we said what can we do to have a long-term solution, she proposed a vasectomy and we agree on that. I was very free with it, and I felt it was my responsibility as a man.

“Doctors did a permanent and irreversible process. The vasectomy was done on July 12, 2022, at the time, doctors assured me that I would be safe after 20 ejaculations which is about three months.”
