Stop advocating for a coup in Nigeria, a more prosperous society can still be won within the context of democracy – Shehu Sani tells Nigerians

Former lawmaker Senator Shehu Sani remains hopeful about the revival of Nigeria’s democracy.

Recalling recent statements from the Defence Headquarters (DHQ), which reiterated contentment within the military and denied coup plans in Nigeria, Sani made his sentiments clear on social media. The DHQ Director of Defence Information, Tukur Gusau, had expressed dissatisfaction with reports alleging welfare concerns within the armed forces, emphasizing that such reports were suggesting military intervention in the nation’s democracy.

In a social media post on Monday, Sani, a social critic as well, urged fellow citizens who advocate, solicit, or provoke a coup in the country to cease such activities.

He further emphasized that the pursuit of a just, equitable, and more prosperous society is still attainable within the framework of democracy.

He wrote, “Our democracy can still be redeemed or refined. The struggle for a just, equitable and more prosperous society can still be won within the context of democracy. Our Countrymen, pls stop advocating, soliciting or inciting for a coup in Nigeria.”
