Nigeria’s first female Major-General, Aderonke Kale dies at 84

Nigeria’s esteemed retired female Major-General, Aderonke Kale, has passed away at the age of 84. The confirmation of her death came from E. O. Okafor, the President of the Alumni Association of the National Institute (AANI), who emphasized her irreplaceable role in the medical and military history of the country.

Major-General Kale, a trailblazer in both fields, was trained as a medical doctor, specializing in psychiatry at the University of London. Born on July 31, 1939, she rose through the ranks in the army, achieving the position of Major-General in 1994 and retiring in 1997.

Aderonke Kale, survived by her husband and five sons, including Yemi Kale, the former Statistician-General of Nigeria, leaves behind a remarkable legacy. May her soul rest in peace.
