”On your mandate we shall stand”- 27 Rivers state lawmakers sing as they defect to APC

Twenty-seven members of the Rivers State House of Assembly have defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to join the All Progressives Congress (APC).

These lawmakers, known for their loyalty to the former governor of the state and current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, declared their move on the morning of December 11. The legislators attributed their defection to the internal divisions within the PDP.

The defection occurred several weeks after an unsuccessful attempt to impeach the current governor of the state, Siminalayi Fubara. Fubara is currently embroiled in a dispute with Wike, the individual who played a crucial role in his ascension to the governorship.

Rumors are circulating that Wike may soon declare his own defection to the APC as well.
