Pope Francis calls for ban of Surrogacy, says children should never be the subject of commercial contracts

Pope Francis strongly condemned surrogate motherhood as a reprehensible practice that should be universally prohibited due to its commercialization of pregnancy.

Speaking during his foreign policy address to ambassadors accredited to the Holy See, the Catholic leader expressed his disdain for the exploitation of unborn children and labeled surrogate motherhood a grave violation of women’s and children’s dignity.

Emphasizing that children should never be the subject of commercial contracts, he called for a global ban on surrogacy to eradicate this practice universally. Despite the Catholic Church’s opposition to surrogacy, the Vatican’s doctrine office permits the baptism of children born through surrogacy to homosexual parents, a decision made with Pope Francis’s explicit approval.
