“No Nigerian university is allowed to charge fees in dollars” – NUC

The National Universities Commission (NUC) has affirmed that no tertiary institution in Nigeria is permitted to impose tuition fees in dollars.

Chris Maiyaki, the acting Executive Secretary of NUC, made this declaration during a media briefing with education reporters in Abuja on Thursday, Feb. 15.

His statement was prompted by an announcement from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), which summoned proprietors of private universities and other higher learning institutions in Nigeria suspected of levying fees in dollars.

Maiyaki said: “On the dollarisation of tuition fees in this said university, we have investigated it and the university is not charging fees in dollars. They only charge dollars to foreign students. So, I want the media to join hands with us to tell the public that no Nigerian university is allowed to charge fees in dollars.”
