Nigeria’s D’Tigers withdraw from AfroBasket 2025 Qualifiers due to lack of funds

Due to financial constraints, Nigeria’s senior men’s national basketball team, D’Tigers, has opted to withdraw from the AfroBasket 2025 qualifiers. Initially slated to commence their campaign against Libya on Saturday, 23 February, the Nigerian squad has regrettably pulled out from participation.

Current reports suggest that the Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF) is scrambling to secure funding from the Ministry of Sports at the eleventh hour, in a bid to facilitate D’Tigers’ involvement in the qualifiers.

The qualification process for AfroBasket 2025 spans from February to November 2024, determining the 16 nations that will advance to the FIBA AfroBasket 2025 tournament.

In the first phase of the qualifiers, D’Tigers were grouped with Uganda, Cape Verde, and Libya, with matches scheduled to take place in Tunisia.
