(photos)Documents from school show evidence that Yahaya Bello paid school fees for family members in advance after withdrawing $720,000 from the state’s coffers

Evidence presented as exhibits suggests that Yahaya Bello purportedly used funds from the state treasury to pay in advance for the school fees of his family members, both current students and potential future enrollees, at the American International School of Abuja.

A letter from the school to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) confirms that Bello, the former governor of Kogi State, deposited $845,852.84 into the school’s account since September 2021 as advance payment for the education of four family members until their graduation, with provisions made for any future family members to be enrolled.

The document implicates Mr. Ali Bello, purportedly Yahaya Bello’s eldest son, as the individual who made the payment. According to the school, fees for services already rendered to the Bello children have been deducted, leaving a balance of $760,910 to be refunded to an account designated by the EFCC as part of their investigation into alleged money laundering involving Yahaya Bello.

Furthermore, the school indicates that no additional tuition fees are anticipated for the Bello family children until they complete their education at ASIA (American International School of Abuja).
