Senate confirms Professor Mahmood Yakubu as INEC Chairman

Professor Mahmood Yakubu has been reappointed as the chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Professor Yakubu’s appointment ensures that he will serve as the head of the electoral commission for another five years, having served 1st tenure from 2015 to 2020.

His confirmation followed the consideration of the report of the Senate Committee on INEC, led by Senator Kabiru Gaya, which submitted its report at plenary and recommended Yakubu for confirmation.

The senators, who spoke before his confirmation, described him as highly qualified for the job.

  1. What good things did he do to Nigeria that make him deserve the chairman? Mahmood is full of corruption….take look at the previous election in the country both general and gurbanitoria election…did not gone well under the Mahmood….let’s compare him with professor atahiru jega…can we even compare them together? Nigeria can not found someone like jega again… approved Mahmood as a chairman is absord gaskiya.
