Border closure made no impact on Banditry, Insurgency – Shehu Sani
Former lawmaker, Senator Shehu Sani has expressed that the land border closure by the federal government was of no use as it failed to contain insecurity in the country.
Shehu Sani said this following President Muhammadu Buhari’s remark on Tuesday that the land borders of the country were closed to control the smuggling of weapons and drugs and will be opened as soon as possible.
Reacting to this in a tweet, Senator Shehu Sani stated that the closure of Nigeria’s borders only unleashed hardships and sufferings on the border communities.
He wrote:
“The Closure of Our Country’s borders made no impact in containing banditry and insurgency. It only unleashed hardships and sufferings on the border communities.It was all about Rice and Rice, and we are still neither a major Rice producer nor exporter.”
