“I was once a #EndSARS protester who knew when to stop and negotiate” – Fayemi

Governor of Ekiti State, Kayode Fayemi has revealed that he was once an activist in his younger days who knew when to stop and negotiate, and according to him it gave them progress.

Speaking at a virtual symposium organised by the Harvard Kenny School Alumni Association of Nigeria on Friday December 11, Fayemi called on the government to respond to the cry of the youths as it is their right not a privilege.

He further warned the youths to fight for what they want and rid themselves of any sense of entitlement.

He said;

“We do owe them a duty to begin to respond to those reasonable demands that they make for a good education which is a right not a privilege, for accountable governance, for human rights protection and I think this is something that the government must respond to.

“They are the larger part of the population but they need to really rid themselves of a sense of entitlement because nobody gives you these things freely, you have to fight for it and I am glad that they are beginning to fight for it.

“Ultimately, when they start knocking on that door, and they break the door open, they will be allowed in. But in breaking it open, they can do it by stealth rather than by brigandage.

“Some of us have spent our time at the barricade. In the better time of my younger days, I was also a #EndSARS protester of sorts as you know. But I knew when to stop and when to start negotiating with those in power and authority and ultimately, we made some progress.”

  1. So what are you indirectly trying to say
    That this is the time to stop and negotiate for this one
    Your own time has passed and now is our own time and no one now is interested to know how you did your own
    The country is getting worse and worse by the day and it is unacceptable by the masses

  2. We need action presently not just talking, in those olden days the government speaks by action not a mere words.

  3. The government doesn’t value her citizens because if they does, they would have finding solution to their agitation, not by mouth.

  4. The way you people were being treated in the olden days is different from the way we are being treated now, you should always quickly respond to our agitation without messing up with it.

  5. Government should be prudent in their dealings and also youth inclusive is very essential because we are the leaders of tomorrow, they should give youths role to play in the government.
