WAEC to bar cheating students from sitting for it’s exams

The West African Examinations Council, WAEC has approved sanctions for students and schools who have reported cases of Exam Malpractice.

This was according to a communiqué released by the body at its 70th meeting of the Nigeria Examinations Committee (NEC) of the council held from Thursday to Saturday last week in Lagos.

The body agreed that guilty students will be barred for a certain number of years while the schools guilty of malpractice will be de-recognised for a number of years or have their recognition completely withdrawn.

“In the course of considering the various reported cases of malpractice, the Committee, after diligent deliberations, approved appropriate sanctions in all established cases of malpractice, as prescribed by the Rules and Regulations governing the conduct of the Council’s examination.

“It approved that the entire results of candidates involved in proven cases, which attracted cancellation of Entire Results (CER), be cancelled, while subject results of those involved in proven cases, which attracted Cancellation of Subject Results, be similarly cancelled.

“In addition, some candidates will also suffer other sanctions such as barring them from sitting for the Council’s examination for a certain number of years, some schools will be derecognised for a specified number of years or have their recognition completely withdrawn, some supervisors that were found wanting in the discharge of their examination duties will be formally reported to their employers and blacklisted.”

  1. This is good to hear. At least if all these treat of sanctions and punishment are Carried to the very later, the educational system and sector will add a little value to what it is today
    The system of using malpractice to take exams in any form is supposed to be unacceptable in any sane clime

  2. Most of the students do not serious with their studies anymore because of all these malpractices, if they can impose sanction against them it will serve as a deterrent to other schools.

  3. The way students are seeing the exam malpractices nowadays have become normal routine for students and this thing should be stopped.

  4. If care is not taking, Nigeria will collapse totally in education. Government also is one of the factor that contributed to the failure of this students. Inadequate of teachers etc.

  5. WAEC wants to barn any student caught cheating in the exam hall abi, Our politicians that have been cheating on the people they are ruling how many times have they been banned from the office or from this country. Abeg stop pursing shadows
