FG suspends hike in Electricity Tariffs till end of January

The Federal Government has directed the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) to inform all Electricity Distribution Companies (DISCOs) to reverse the electricity hike tariff that was applicable in December 2020.

The directive was made known in a statement by Aaron Artima, the Senior Special Adviser, Media and Communications to the Minister of Power, Mr Saleh Mamman, on Thursday.

He stated that the order to reversal to the old tariff was to promote a constructive conclusion of the dialogue with the Labour Centres (through the Joint Ad-Hoc Committee).

Mamman said: “I have directed NERC to inform all DISCOs that they should revert to the tariffs that were applicable in December 2020 until the end of January 2021 when the FGN and Labour committee work will be concluded.

“This will allow for the outcome of all resolutions from the Committee to be implemented together.”

  1. Everyone is just using their power where applicable without notifying the president because I’m wondering how the NERC will increase the tariff and the executive will denying the knowledge of it, this is bad.

  2. They just feel like punishing average Nigerians will all these policies of increment everyday, when you increase electricity tariff by 100% where do you want us to get the money to pay it in this present time, this is Wickedness.

  3. Instead of compelling all the states governor to the minimum wage before starting implementing any policies, the federal executive just ignore them and now you want to increase the tariff of the light, this is wickedness.

  4. They would have gone ahead and see what’s going to happen, yeye people. They have nothing to offer us except compounding the hardship of the citizens.
