Incompetent leaders took over from military in 1999 – Governor Bello

Governor Abubakar Bello of Niger State has blamed the failed governing system on incompetent leaders since the handing over of leadership from the military in 1999.

According to Bello at a summit organised by a member of the House of Representatives and Chairman Board of Trustees of Lead Generation Initiative (LGI) Shina Peller in Abuja, he noted that when the military decided to hand over power to civilians, a lot of competent people never believed in the process and therefore stood back and watched while the system was manipulated by incompetent people.

He said;

“For them (those who took power from the military), occupying political offices was business and they accumulated a lot of wealth. The Governor who insisted that “the position of a councillor or ward leader is fundamental and also very important for the development of the country”, told educated youths not to be ashamed of aspiring for leadership position in the country as their involvement especially at the grassroots level, will enable them to take leadership positions and effect the change they desire instead of just complaining on the sidelines.

  1. Who are those incompetent that took over from the military? Ahmed lawan and co, are they not the one who is in power till date then, who are to blame?

  2. Can you name those who took over from the military men? Are they not your people? The present administration should fora way to find solutions to Nigeria’s problem not blaming anybody for it.

  3. What those of you in power presently is that you should have name your achievement not putting the blaming on anybody or your predecessor.

  4. Oga I disagree with you. Who did the military handed over to. Obasanjo was in prison and amongst all the competent, educated intellectuals they ought to hand over to, they stupidly and selfishly brought Obasanjo out of prison and handed power over to him. They looked and found one of their one in Obasanjo who will protect their stolen wealth and evil against Nigerian state and at the peril of educated intellectuals that abound.
