FG’s failure to license Amotekun to bear arms illegal – Falana

Human rights lawyer, Femi Falana, has expressed that it is illegal for the Federal Government not to license the South-West Security Network Agency, also known as Amotekun, to bear arms.

Falana stated this when he spoke on a PUNCH Online interview programme, The Roundtable.

He opined that if a private citizen can apply for a licence to bear arms for self-defence, the Amotekun Corps are also entitled to the same benefit.

He urged the state governors in the region to approach the authorities in Abuja for the Amotekun operatives to bear arms to effectively tackle the myriad of security challenges confronting the region.

  1. Why won’t they allow amotakun to bear arms, when fulani headers bear arms. Amotakun is a security outfit, and well trained so they should be allowed to bear arm

  2. They know that security of Yoruba land will be tight beyond what the federal government can compromise that is why they don’t want to license them to bear arms.

  3. Individual were giving license to bear arms and even corporate affairs, why they don’t want to license security outfit, this is bad.

  4. You’re right in this one, but must they wait to be licensed before they bear arms to defend their people. The herdsmen they’re fighting are equiped with suffiscated weapons. Are they going to fight them with bare hands. As long as the whole Southwest governors gave Amotekun backing with framework to guide them they should.give they licence to operate and the weapons to operate with
