We pay compensation of N100,000 to farmers and herders if there’s destruction due to a misunderstanding – Governor Okezie Ikpeazu

Governor Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia state has said his administration has decided to compensate farmers and herders a sum of N100,000 in case of any misunderstanding from both parties.

Appearing on a Channels Television programme, the Abia state Governor revealed that there is a Farmers-Herders Resolution Committee in the state which is headed by the Commissioner of Police.

According to him, the compensation will be paid for any cow that is killed on account of a misunderstanding between the farmers and the herders and also for farmlands destroyed by strayed cows.

The Governor who noted that there’s been a spike in the abduction, rape and killing of farmers in the state, added that sometimes those behind the act don’t have cows but are infiltrators who disguise as herdsmen. He assured that they will be going after such people.

  1. That’s nonsense, if lives were lost too, would you pay a just hundred thousand for it? That’s wickedness.

  2. What you need is to tight security in the land not a hundred thousand naira, if properties destroy by these herdsmen is more than a million and you just pay hundred thousand, it is bad.

  3. If you stand up to your responsibility and find a way to find lasting solution to it, it won’t be needing to spend money on such.
