Why do we feel superior because we speak English with a Foreign Accent? – 2face Idibia questions
Veteran Nigerian singer, 2face Idibia, has asked why Africans behave in a condescending manner towards those who cannot properly speak English.
In a tweet he shared, the singer also admitted that he is guilty of the act but said he feels terrible about it.
He wrote;
“Why do we as Africans laugh or look down at us that can’t speak English proper or don’t have the accent?
“Why do we feel superior because we can speak English with their accent?
“I have been guilty of this and I feel terrible now. #UNWASHTHEBRAINWASH #ONELOVERELIGION.”
That is where our leaders get it wrong, though, they are the one who colonised us but it doesn’t mean that we shouldn’t value our culture.
Most of us are guilty of it especially those in the offices, if you find out that they are your tribe and speak your tribe to them they will look at you as dirt which is bad.
Until we change our attitude towards it nothing will will change because it has been part and parcel of it.
