BREAKING: Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala makes history, confirmed as WTO DG
Dr Okonjo-Iweala has been appointed as the Director-General of the WTO.
Dr. Okonjo-Iweala becomes the first woman and the first African to lead the WTO.
Her appointment was confirmed following a selection process that included eight candidates from around the world.
According to a tweet by the Trade Organisation, her term starts on the 1st of March, 2021
The tweet reads:
“Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala from Nigeria is appointed as the next WTO Director-General.
“Her term starts on the 1st of March 2021.”
