“Some people want to keep the North educationally backward because education brings liberation” – Bauchi Governor’s son reacts to school kidnappings

Abdullahi Mohammed, son of Bauchi State Governor, has said that the incessant school abductions in Northern Nigeria are orchestrated by people who want the North to be educationally backward as they know that it brings liberation.

Abdullahi shared this via his Instagram page on Wednesday, March 17 reacting to the recent kidnapping of pupils and teachers in a primary school in Rema, Birnin Gwari Local Government Area of Kaduna State after which it was reported that no fewer than 618 schools have remained closed in six northern states over the fear of attack and abductions of pupils and members of the staff.

According to Abdullahi, the North has been the most educationally disadvantaged region for decades but there has been a tremendous growth since 2010.

He said;

“Educationally, the North is the most backward region in Nigeria. The situation was worse decades ago. Statistically, education started booming and growing since 2010 in the North. Some people are not comfortable with this trend. So they want to destroy it finally by creating fear among pupils and parents. Because education brings liberation and some people will do anything to maintain the staus quo.”
