‘Great Hope For Democracy,’ – Fayose Reacts As Senate Rejects Onochie for INEC job

Former Governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose has hailed the Nigerian Senate for rejecting the nomination of Lauretta Onochie, a presidential aide, as a commissioner of the Independent National Electoral Commission.

The upper legislative chamber during a plenary on Tuesday stepped down the nomination of Onochie based on upholding of the Federal Character Principle.

Reacting to this development, Fayose commended the Senate for listening to Nigerians, saying it portends great hope for democracy.

He expressed hope that the National Assembly will use the move as a platform to “subject itself more to what represents the interest of Nigerians.”

In his words;

“On rejection of Lauretta Onochie’s nomination as INEC Commissioner,I commend the Senate for listening to Nigerians.

”This portends great hope for democracy & I hope the NASS can go further by subjecting itself more to what represents the interest of Nigerians.
Congrats Nigerians!
