Beyonce donates £8,000 to struggling Nigerian restaurant located in North London

Renowned American singer, Beyoncé, has generously donated £8,000 to a struggling Nigerian restaurant located in North London, which was on the verge of closure due to escalating energy bills.

Chuku’s, a Nigerian tapas restaurant operated by siblings Emeka and Ifeyinwa Frederik in Tottenham, emerged as one of the ten fortunate recipients of a grant from the 41-year-old music icon’s foundation, BeyGOOD, earlier this month.

As part of her Renaissance World Tour, Beyoncé’s foundation, BeyGOOD, had committed to donating a portion of $1 million (£806,000) to ten businesses across various cities worldwide.

Chuku’s had encountered significant challenges since its launch amidst the pandemic, including grappling with the financial strain of surging energy costs.

Fortunately, the siblings received a significant boost from Beyoncé’s foundation through the grant awarded during the Black Parade Small Business Impact Luncheon. This event, created by BeyGOOD, aimed to recognize and support individuals, communities, and small businesses affected by global economic disparities.

Emeka, co-founder of Chuku’s, expressed his gratitude, stating, “This grant is truly a blessing. Chuku’s, like many other restaurants without substantial financial reserves, has faced immense challenges due to lockdowns and the cost of living crisis. Every day, we fight to remain open and reach our fourth anniversary. This funding will alleviate some of those struggles and allow us to continue showcasing Nigerian culture on Tottenham’s High Road, at least for the time being.”

Ifeyinwa, his sister, added, “I still can’t quite believe that Beyoncé has shown her support for our restaurant – it feels somewhat surreal. This gesture will undoubtedly have a profound impact on our business and the entire Chuku’s family.”
