Nollywood showed the world Nigerian entertainment before Afrobeats – Omotola says as she shares old movie she featured in

Nigerian actress, Omotola Jalade Ekeinde, commonly known as Omosexy, has expressed that Nollywood, the Nigerian film industry, introduced the Nigerian entertainment scene to the global stage long before Afrobeats gained prominence.

On Thursday, Omotola shared her thoughts on her Instagram page, reflecting on her impact on Nollywood and the world prior to the advent of social media. She also presented old movie clips featuring some of her industry colleagues as evidence of Nollywood’s global reach preceding the rise of Afrobeats.

In her post, Omotola reminisced about the videos she received, which featured Rita Dominic, Genevieve Nnaji, and Stella Damasus. She described the experience as nostalgic and acknowledged that despite the videos’ subpar quality and the absence of social media during that era, these movies managed to break barriers. She proudly proclaimed that Nollywood pioneered Nigerian entertainment on the global stage before the emergence of Afrobeats and continues to do so.
