FG charges Emefiele for illegal possession of firearm

The Federal Government has brought two charges against Godwin Emefiele, the suspended governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria. He is accused of illegally possessing a single-barrel shotgun and 123 rounds of live ammunition without a license, contrary to the Firearms Act.

Emefiele has been in the custody of the Department of State Service since June 10, but a Federal High Court in Abuja recently ruled that his arrest and detention by the DSS were illegal and granted an injunction protecting his freedom of movement and personal liberty. The case is yet to be assigned to a judge, but it is expected to be assigned next week.
