Chibok girl who escaped Boko Haram captivity gets engaged to US partner

Joy Bishara, one of the Chibok schoolgirls who bravely escaped from Boko Haram captivity in 2014, recently got engaged to her partner in the United States.

She joyfully shared the news of her engagement on her Facebook page on Monday, July 24, along with photos from the special occasion. Bishara expressed her happiness, stating that she said “yes” to love, laughter, and a lifetime with her best friend.

Recall that Boko Haram terrorists had attacked Government Girls Secondary School, Chibok, in Borno state back in April 2014, resulting in the abduction of 276 female pupils aged 16 to 18.

Fortunately, 57 of the schoolgirls, including Joy Bishara, managed to escape by jumping from the trucks used to transport them. After the ordeal, she relocated to the United States, where she successfully earned a bachelor’s degree in social work from Southeastern University in 2021.
