Nigeria loses out on AFCON 2027 hosting right to Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania

Nigeria’s attempt to jointly host the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations with Benin Republic has been thwarted. The Confederation of African Football (CAF) opted to grant hosting rights to Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania, a decision communicated after CAF’s executive committee meeting on Wednesday.

It’s noteworthy that Morocco secured the hosting rights for the 2025 AFCON. Nigeria’s most recent hosting of Africa’s premier football event was in the year 2000 when the nation co-hosted the competition with Ghana.
