I do not owe any explanation about my visit to the president – Duoye Diri

Governor Douye Diri of Bayelsa State defended his visit to President Bola Tinubu after the Supreme Court’s ruling, asserting that he doesn’t owe an explanation for the visit.

He dismissed opposition claims of ulterior motives and lies surrounding his congratulatory visit to Tinubu, insisting it was not unusual. Diri, speaking during the PDP’s governorship campaign, clarified that his visit was to extend congratulations following the court’s verdict.

He emphasized being entitled to offer felicitations and disclosed discussing state matters with the President during his visit to the presidential villa, where he found a receptive response.

He said: “Thursday, I was in Abuja and most of you saw the video trending. The opposition is now jittery and are telling lies. Of course, that is in their character.

“As a sitting governor, there is a sitting president and I do not owe them any explanation about my visit to the president.

“If the Supreme Court affirms the president of the country, as a sitting governor, I reserve all the rights to visit him. But beyond that, I went for very serious state business and I can tell you that Mr President attended to all the issues I raised.”
