Paramilitary officers to be put on same salary level with police – Minister of Interior, Olubunmi

The Federal Government has conveyed its engagement in discussions with the Nigeria Salaries and Wages Commission to enhance the salaries of paramilitary officers, aligning them with the remuneration received by members of the Nigeria Police Force, NPF.

In a statement signed by the Ministry of Interior’s Director of Press, Ajibola Afonja, on Tuesday, October 31, the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, emphasized the necessity to enhance the salaries of paramilitary personnel. He highlighted the need for an equitable pension board, citing the risks and challenges inherent in their duties.

Tunji-Ojo expressed his view that it is both unfair and detrimental to the morale of these essential public servants that they currently receive significantly lower salaries compared to their counterparts in the police force. He underscored the deserving nature of better financial recognition for the paramilitary personnel who daily risk their lives in their duties.

He also said that, like the military, ” the Federal Government was considering the establishment of a pension board for personnel of the Nigerian Immigration Service, Federal Fire Service, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, and the Nigeria Correctional Service.”
