Court grants ex-CBN governor, Emefiele’s travel request

The Federal Capital Territory High Court in Maitama, Abuja, has modified the bail conditions for Godwin Emefiele, the former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria.

Originally granted bail in November with conditions including a deposit of N300 million and surrendering travel documents, Emefiele sought a variation to allow domestic travel. The prosecution did not object but requested assurance of his presence in the country.

The court approved the modification, requiring Emefiele to stay in Nigeria during the trial. The court also noted the amended charges against him, adjourning the proceedings to January 19 for plea-taking. Emefiele faces allegations of favoritism in awarding contracts to a CBN staff member. He pleaded not guilty to the charges in November 2023.
