FAAN relocation: Fed Govt to save N500m annually – Keyamo

Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has disclosed the reasons behind the Federal Government’s decision to relocate the headquarters of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) from Abuja to Lagos. Keyamo emphasized the potential cost savings of over N450 million in airfares annually, as officials would no longer need to travel from Abuja to Lagos for meetings.

Despite opposition from some Northern groups, Keyamo justified the move based on operational and economic considerations. He explained that the relocation was initiated for operational efficiency, responding to requests from FAAN officials and aviation unions.

Keyamo clarified that only one of the seven aviation agencies is affected, and he asserted that the decision falls within his ministerial purview. Additionally, he addressed the issue of the failed Nigeria Air project, stating that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is investigating the controversial initiative initiated by his predecessor, Hadi Sirika. Keyamo also pledged to establish a proper national carrier and threatened to publicly expose airlines without valid reasons for flight cancellations.
