N5bn palliatives to States, diversionary, wasteful – Femi Falana

Femi Falana, a renowned human rights lawyer and Senior Advocate of Nigeria, has criticized the Federal Government’s N5 billion fuel subsidy removal support as a diversionary tactic and a squandering of resources.

Speaking during a Channels Television interview, Falana emphasized that addressing the root cause, the dollarization of the country’s economy, should be the focus, and not just providing temporary interventions.

He expressed concern about the decision by the Central Bank of Nigeria to float the Naira on the foreign market. He argued that while various interventions might offer temporary relief, the larger issue lies in the economy’s dollarization.

This is coming after Babagana Zulum of Borno state revealed that N5billion had been disbursed to the 36 states and the Federad Capital Territory after a National Economic Council meeting on Thursday.
