We don’t torture in the police again, we carry out professional interview sessions – ACP, Muyiwa Adejobi

The Nigeria Police Force has announced a cessation of the practice of subjecting suspects to torture while in their custody.

In an interview on Channels Television on Tuesday, April 2, the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Muyiwa Adejobi, made this declaration.

This statement follows reports of the arrest of individuals suspected to be involved in the killing of the Divisional Police Officer in Rivers State.

The Force spokesperson emphasized that the police are now mindful of the provisions outlined in the Anti-torture Act of 2017 and are professionally conducting interrogations.

Adejobi further emphasized that the police do not find it necessary to resort to torture to obtain crucial information.

He said, “We don’t torture in the police again. That era has gone. We are actually carrying out what we call interview and interrogation sessions in a professional way to get them.

“We are conscious of the provisions Anti-torture Act of 2017. We don’t need to torture anybody. It may take us time to get information from them but we will surely get information from them.”
