The Court should not determine the outcome in an election – Goodluck Jonathan

Former President Goodluck Jonathan says the court should not determine the outcome of an election.

He stated this while speaking on The Osasu Show Symposium 2020. According to him, electronic voting is the only way to get to credible elections in Nigeria and the rest of Africa.

“For elections to be democratic, that means that the outcome of the elections must depend on the ballot, not any other institution, not even the court, he said

“If the ballots don’t decide who wins, then we are not practicing democracy.

“And if we are now in a situation where people use force of arms and thugs to win elections, then we can’t say we are practicing democracy,” he added

  1. That’s the bitter truth, elections in Nigeria is not free and fair except the one we had in 1993 during MKO abiola era, since then elections are wuruwuru and arranger. I will just appeal to our leaders to have fear of God in their dealings.

  3. u’ve said it all sir, electronic voting is still the best process and this issue of court coming to decide the winner after the election doesn’t speak good at all.

  4. So true, how can a court decide an election instead of balloting.Electronic voting will sure help out so that democracy can be fully practised and not partly.

  5. The real democratic president we have ever had has spoken. The man of peace who values human blood more than power, the man of peace
President Goodluck Jonathan, God bless you
It is clear that we are not practicing democracy in Nigeria yet. With all that is happening, we are yet to get it right
How can we say we are under democratic rule, when the winners of elections are selected and not duly elected. The leaders ascend to power through rigging most times they even use arms and force to intimidate the so called voters and even go up to the extent of killing people
The electronic voting when used well should be the best as the former president Jonathan has adviced

  6. We missed a great man in our country, as me which man…”Dr Good-luck Ebele Jonathan. What this man is saying is true.

  7. That’s bitter truth, we all know that the election you people use to conduct is not free and fair election, why can’t you design a mechanism that will allow the will of masses to prevail. If unfortunately you didn’t get to power election later you will use court to truncate people’s will. If we advance to the level of using e-voting it will be good enough for us in Nigeria then the will of masses will prevail.

  8. Before you act, listen. Before you react, think. Before you spend, earn. Before you critize, wait. Before you pray, forgive. Before you quit, try. Because election is free vote.

  9. I know our leaders will not subscribe to Electronics voting because there will be no way to rig elections again . I wish we can do online voting in Nigeria, it’s only through that means we can have credible elections.
