Nigeria not Collecting enough Tax Revenue as it should – El-Rufai
Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai has stated that Nigeria is not collecting as much public revenue as it should.
The governor who noted that although there is considerable resistance to the hike in VAT from 5 per cent to 7.5 per cent, Nigeria’s rates are still much lower than other neighbouring countries.
Speaking at the 22nd Annual Tax Conference of the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria (CITN) held in Lagos on Thursday, El-rufai raised the alarm that the country has almost reached its maximum capacity to borrow and with the collapse of crude oil prices, the nation should be more proactive to avoid external shocks.
He said the country should start developing tax extraction capacity and create an effective tax system that influences structural change.

Considering the state of the economy in Nigeria I don’t a hike in taxation is necessary.

The tax they are collecting are they not the one putting it to the pucket. If we see good things on ground why won’t we add more to the tax we pay

I don’t think this man knows what is saying because the price of every commodities have sky rocket and invariably increased everything, then what type of tax are you still talking about?
The present tax that you are generating or collecting, do you use it wisely? Absolutely no. Why can’t you implore all the public office holders to reduce their cost of governance in order to have money visible projects.
Instead of thinking of borrowing always or or extort the poorer, why can’t all politicians reduce their allowances and other things to save Nigeria from extravagant spending.
This is just thinking like illiterate, why can’t government fix roads that link villages that involves in agricultural products in order to generate more revenue apart from oil. When oil booms, you spend lavishly but now nothing to write home about.
