ASUU Strike: “I have three biological children in Nigerian Public Universities” – Ngige

The Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige, on Monday, restated the commitment of President Muhammadu Buhari-led government to end the ongoing Academic Staff Union of Universities strike.

The Minister during an interview on Arise TV denied the report that the federal government are behind the delay in the ongoing negotiations with the union because their children school abroad.

Ngige said,

“I have three biological children in public schools. They are in public schools; they are not in private universities. Unlike ASUU members who have most of their children in private universities, three of mine are here. So, I am a very big stakeholder in the public tertiary school system.”

“So, when ASUU says politicians don’t care because they have taken their children abroad, Chris Ngige cares because my children are not abroad even though they have dual nationality – two of them have American citizenship; they can be in America but I choose them to be here with me.”

“So, ASUU cannot accuse me of not being nationalistic enough. Anything that will help the university system here, I am in the forefront.”

  1. Whether you have children in public university or not doesn’t matter, what matter most now is to find lasting solution to the ASUU strike and let the students move on with their studies.

  2. With twinkle of an eye you can take them to America if things get worsen more than this because they have dual citizenship, what of we that we don’t have more than Nigeria citizenship even cotonuo, we don’t.

  3. Federal government is the delaying the strike because if you have honour 2009 agreement, their demands won’t be enormous but the reverse is the case, you shouldn’t cajole us with the number of children you have in the public university.

  4. Look at you, your children is at home more than eight months without going to anywhere and you are happy and boast of it. You must be clueless, instead of solving the problem, you have turned it to play.

  5. Please you should just stop waiting people’s children future and resolve. Enough is enough students are tired staying at home doing nothing.

  6. This is just the truth. The leaders take their wards away to abroad to study and them keep the educational system here in a mess
