Senate urges President Buhari to sack service Chiefs

The Senate on Tuesday has called on the president to immediately replace the overstayed service chiefs with new ones, those with fresh ideas.

According to a statement by the Senate President, Ahmed Lawan, the president needs to take immediate steps to restructure the entire security system in the country.

He further advised that state-of-the-art weapons should be provided to aid the fight against insurgency.

The senate President also admonished the President to immediately set up a probe panel into the widespread allegations of corruption and leakages within the security structure and put mechanisms in place to foster transparency.

He said;

“I Urge the President of Federal Republic of Nigeria to immediately initiate the transitionary process of phasing out the current over-stayed security chiefs and replacing them with new ones with new ideas and solutions;

“I Urge the President to take immediate steps to restructure, remodel and revamp the country’s entire security architecture and provide enough state-of-the-art weapons and equipment to effectively combat the belligerent power of the insurgents.”

“The President shouldn’t ensure all resources meant and deployed for security are actually spent on the needs on ground; Impress on the Federal Government to aggressively explore multilateral and bilateral options of partnership with the neighboring nations of Chad, Niger and Cameroon towards reviving and strengthening the Multinational Joint Task Force.

“Finally, as a way of proffering long term solution to Nigeria’s existential security challenges, the Federal and States Government must adequately address all immediate and remote causes of insecurity in the nation,” Lawan added.

  1. Keeping the same service chiefs who have run out of ideas will not yield much in the war against insurgents. The president has this weakness of stubborn approach to issues.. Why not try some other officers who are hungry for success? Burutai and the rest have done their best, unfortunately their best is not good enough

  2. Thats not our problem in the country…the main problem we have now….are the national assembly… They are not fit with the present administration lead by the President muhammadu buhari…the President is using military law inside civilian government. President muhammadu buhari need to reform the national assembly as well is not only the security agencies…all Nigeria know that Ahmed lawal is rubber stamp to this government, and we also know that nothing good can come out from there administration.

  3. He should have done that since and even all of them are due for retirement since 2018 but I don’t know what they are still doing in office…..

  4. President buhari is adamant and he won’t take to the corrections, he has been asking in different occasions to stack the overstayed security chiefs but he refused to do so, I don’t know what’s wrong with him.

  5. If you can give him ultimatum wether he is going to listen to you because Nigerians have said this time without numbers and he doesn’t listen.

  6. There is lots of things that needs to be done more than sacking the security chiefs. What the equipment that they are using, is it up to date? Security architectural in this country is very poor.

  7. You (senators) also need to monitor how things are being done in the military agencies without that, we will achieve nothing despite changing the service chiefs.

  8. People have been calling for the sack of the service chiefs, still the president has refused to act accordingly
    Let’s watch if he would listen now because the killings are out of hand
