“It has not been a good year, it’s as if nobody is ruling the country” – Wole Soyinka

Nobel Laureate, Wole Soyinka has expressed disappointment in the leadership structure of the country.

Speaking at the launch of his new book ‘Chronicles of the Happiest People on Earth’, Soyinka stated that it is almost impossible to believe that any one is in charge of the country, he further added that the year has not been a good one for him.

He said;

”With the turbulence that characterises year 2020, and as activities wind down, the mood has been repugnant and very negative. I don’t want to sound pessimistic but this is one of the most pessimistic years I have known in this nation and it wasn’t just because of COVID-19, no.

“Natural disasters had happened elsewhere, but how have you managed to take such in their strides? Was calamity as a result of human negligence or as a result of malignant activities when people find themselves under the control of other beings which I am afraid what most Nigerians find themselves in, it is like you don’t know from where the blow would descend. That is not the way a nation should be and that is not the way the citizens should exist.

“The situation has reached a point where you are not very sure of where you are or where you will end it. As I had said before, you don’t believe, in many instances, that anybody is in charge. That, really, is a parlous condition for any nation.

“So, I am afraid it has not been a very good year for me generally.”

  1. It is not only you Sir that feels that way. Most of us also think towards that direction of feeling as if there is no one in charge of the country
    A lot of bad things happen now that look absurd and make someone begin to wonder if there is a leader truly incharge of this nation

  2. Nobody is ruling this country
    Nigeria has no President
    Because you can’t tell me that this country has a president and all these evil and bad things are happening in his regime and he couldn’t even say anything talk more of doing something to stop it.

  3. I think I’m the only one insinuating that, how would a sitting president be just sitting down and things are deteriorate day in day out, this is bad.

  4. I hope this time around, Mr President would come out and address the nation and let the people know that he is one in charge not any cabals.

  5. The security of the country is deteriorating day by day, there is inflation in the land above all corruption and nobody to checkmate the people in charge. Then we say we are having president.
