Treat everyone equally to preserve Nigeria’s unity – Fani-Kayode tells Buhari

Femi Fani-Kayode has called out President Muhammadu Buhari after he addressed the released schoolboys of Government Science School, Kankara, Katsina State in Hausa language where he reportedly urged them to stay in school.

Reacting to this in a tweet, the former Minister stated that the move by the President violates the obligation to treat everyone equally, which he says is a threat to the unity of the country.

He wrote:

“You addressed the Kankara students at a public gathering in front of the nations’ media in Hausa rather than English. May I remind Mr. President that English is the lingua franca of Nigeria & not Hausa & that those kids are NIGERIAN children and not just Hausa Fulani children.

“Millions from all over the country, including the South, prayed for their release & they also deserved to understand what you said to the kids when you met them. If you want Nigeria to remain one then treat us all as equals. If you do not then carry on with what you are doing.”

  1. Of course, Nigerians need to be treated equally in order to preserve unity of the country. President Buhari needs to be prudent in his dealings.

  2. President Buhari needs to change his attitude because in his appointments self there is no equity in it and one Nigeria is at stake.

  3. Sometimes, I use to wondering wether is this buhari that we voted for because how he is handling situation in the country is not very much ok.

  4. In the first place hausa is not our official language then why is he addressing those students in hausa? Those students are Nigerians and they ought to be addressed by our official language which is English. This is bad for a sitting president in the country.

  5. That from good sense of reasoning… But in buhari case its different cuz he doesn’t know how to control his home then how do you expect him rule the country in better ways……

  6. If you seriously say we are one Nigeria, everyone should be treated equally
This is how it is supposed to be so that there will be equal joy
A condition where some tribes are being seriously marginalized is unacceptable
