Varsity workers to begin Nationwide Strike Feb 5

The Senior Staff Association of Nigeria Universities, (SSANU) and the Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions (NASU) has announced that it will commence a nationwide strike from February 5, 2021.

The JAC of SSANU and NASU led by the National President of SSANU, Comrade Mohammed Ibrahim and General Secretary of NASU, Peters Adeyemi, made this known while addressing newsmen in Abuja on Friday.

The group stated that the strike is due to the Federal Government’s handling of the Integrated Personnel and Payroll Information System(IPPIS), sharing formula of the N40 billion earned academic allowances and non-payment of arrears of the new minimum wage.

The group stated that out of the seven issues under contention, only one was partially resolved.

JAC said,

“It is in line with the resolution of our members nationwide that the leadership of the joint action committee of NASU and SSANU hereby resolve as follows;

“That members of NASU and SSANU shall embark on an indefinite, comprehensive and total strike with effect from midnight of Friday, 5th February 2021.

“That two weeks’ notice effective from today, Friday 22nd January 2021, is hereby given to government and relevant stakeholders of this development.

  1. Where are we heading to in this country? Shame on our leaders, instead of resolving the issue bothering the education once and for, they are just parabulating.

  2. Our education have now become toy in the hands of our leaders, after going for almost nine months on strike, another one will still commence on 5th February, this is bad ooo.

  3. Is it because of their children are not schooling in this country or what is happening? Strike upon strike, I don’t think this minister is capable in carry out this assignment.

  4. Government should better look at their plight before the deadline because it may cause another protest in the country.
